White Scar Cataphractii Terminators- Betrayal at Calth Almost completed

So the Lightning Claw equipped Cataphractii Terminators are complete, leaving just the Contemptor Dreadnought, Chaplain and Praetor to finish off and my Betrayal at Calth set is completed!
I will post up better pictures when I have my camera and lightbox unpacked from storage, but I am pleased with how these came out. I have finally become confident with the marble bases, so I will be posting up a tutorial for how to build and then paint these soon.

I used the new GW technical gemstone paints for the lightning claws. These are very easy to work with and produce a nice finish. Fits what I was after very well with minimal effort. The paint can be very gloopy though!

The keen eyed among you may notice the sergeant has a different tabbard (I think that is what they are called) between his legs, it is taken from the space marine commander plastic sprue. This was only because I lost the original, but actually it turned out quite nice, and adds a little bit of movement to the miniature that wasn't there before.

A group shot of the completed miniatures so far. Quite pleased to get all this infantry out of the way.

I have also had a go at painting the interior of my Deimos Pattern Rhino. I will be getting two more of these down the line, but for now, I am resolved to finish what I have before allowing myself any more toys.

This was quite a quick paint job, couldn't justify spending too much time on it.

I might add some chevrons around the yellow. I mean who doesn't love yellow and black chevrons.

To be honest, I think I need a little break from white before I finish off any more of this legion. Perhaps I need to dig out something a bit different for my next project.

Horus Heresy: White Scars Legion- Tactical squads 2 and 3 completed

I have finally plowed through the second and third squads of tactical marines from the Betrayal at Calth Boxed set. These Mark IV sprues are fantastic. I am really excited to get to work on some of forgeworld units now that I have the troop choices under my belt. Here are a few images of what I have so far:
Above is the second squad, all finished bar the weapon options that are magnetized, but I will do these as I need them I think. For now, plasma and chainsword will suffice.
Third squad has a combi melta armed sergeant. Again, he has extra options, but will keep the Melta for now.

And finally everything I have all together. The terminators still need bases, unit markings and the lightning claw scheme sorted out (still working on some nice effects).

I'm really chuffed with how the bases have turned out. That's all for now. I'll get some non grainy phone pics ready for next time.

Astra Militarum- Amphibious Assault Craft

This is a little project I have had on the back burner for a while, but I wanted to share it with you all as I have the time. May be a while before I get back to work on this, however, I have always wanted to make a few landing craft from Chimera chassis.

As you can see I have only used the tracks, trimming down the bulky side pieces. I have added a prow which is also hinged as a ramp. The driver compartment has been added above the heads of the troop bay. A lot of detail is still to be added, and I hope to make between three and five of these.

Where the hatch usually sits I am planning to add a turret, similar, although taller than the one I use on my armoured car like THIS. Detailing will involve rivets, internal stowage and maybe a guard rail around the 'bridge area' I am also thinking about a walkway/platform at the rear. I'll play around and see what looks right.

As I said above, this may take a while before it comes to fruition (desperately trying to get my white scars off the ground), but when it does, expect a D-Day themed battle report!!

The Man Cave 2.0

The man cave is dead, Long live the Man Cave!

As I moved back with my parents last year to save up for a mortgage, I had to give it up, and have been living somewhat of a hobby half life since then.

Well, the new house is mine, and although I am not allowed little soldiers in the house, I have been given permission to turn the garage into a shrine to my hobby... Introducing the Man Cave 2.0!

Above is a little panorama shot. The ceiling is very high and there is plenty of space for a gaming area, seating area and workshop space.

I couldn't resist setting up a gaming table. I couldn't fit one in my last room, so it's nice to finally have the space for it.

At the moment, my little Nissan Micra is enjoying the garage, but soon it will be relegated to the drive.

I have big plans, although they will take a long time to get right. First thing to sort out is a bit of heating and some insulation solutions. It can be quite cold as it is a large space, and only single brick. (any Ideas welcome!) Currently I'm considering some kingspan boarding and some loft insulation overhead, but I'm a bit worried about damp, so ventilation may be required.

There is plenty of power to the garage, and the windows and side door are double glazed. Even the shutter door is thick and well sealed.

As for heating I may look into a wood burning stove (professionally fitted of course, as they can be a dangerous to novices i've been told). Also considering if it is possible to use the old oil central heating system that is still in place as the house was converted to gas a few years ago.

Anyway, more soon, I will be working on this for a while, so plenty of time to weigh up my options.

I'm always on the lookout for inspiration. :)

Return of the Valkyries

As you may know, I have had some pretty bad luck with my air force over the last couple of years, thanks largely to the bulky and difficult to store nature of the Valkyrie models. I did however come into possession of 3 already built Valkyries mid last year, and I finally resolved to get them up and running. Here are some pictures of Green squadron (Valkyrie transports) and Blue Squadron (Vendetta Gunship Squadron) together. It is worth noting that both these squadrons need a little extra detailing (more yellow and black chevrons and the pilot names etc. etc.)

Green squadron- the valkyries have magnetized multiple rocket pods and nose guns like the vendettas. These valkyries are the first I have done with the airbrush, but despite a little difference in shade of the brown, I am generally happy with how they turned out.

I tried to make the cork on the bases look like a dry river bed, with some very small flat pieces clumped together, with some larger pieces creating some levels. I will hopefully get around to making some mini dioramas on the bases, similar to the troop bay on my halftracks.
All the fliers are part of the 40th Corps task force on Vesen, therefore they all wear the task force vehicle markings, noted as the blue and white striping on the nose.

My current painted air force all together. Hopefully the Vulture will be completed soon.

I will finally be getting the keys to my new house (and more importantly my new man cave) this Friday. I will update soon with pictures of my new digs and talk about the big plans I have for the workshop/gaming room.

Astra Militarum Tech Priest Engineseers

Just a small post today, but with their inclusion is so many of the Imperial guard formations, I felt it was important to get a couple of Engineseers that have been languishing in my bits box sorted.

I went with the Ryza colours, as I may build up a small mechanicus faction to ally into my guard. Also, down the line I would hope to acquire a titan or two, so it would be handy to have a forgeworld to base my Titan House colour scheme off.

That's all for now. I'm still plowing ahead with the betrayal at calth box set white scars (plus a couple of forgeworld treats), and I also picked up two Hades mining drills, so I will hopefully build a couple of combat engineers squads soon.

Horus Heresy White Scars- The First Squad is Complete!

I have finished off the first squad, and have began work in earnest on the next batch of 20 Legionaires. Let's jump straight into pictures!

All in all I'm really pleased with the results. This is the first time I have done power armour in 9 years, and the first time I have ever done a complete squad of white space marine power armour.

The bases came out nice too, and hopefully I can get a similar result with the next 20! Work in progress shots of them soon. :)
